Singapore (April 27) Agoda.es, global site of hotel reservations with base in Asia and part of Priceline.com (NASDAQ:PLCN), encourages the Dragon Boat Festival which will be held in Taiwan next June. The Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival, is a highlight of the calendar of cultural events in the country. This spectacular dragon boat race is held the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, and is one of the events that receive greater international and local attention. This year the festival will be held on June 6 and, as always, will commemorate Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a poet and statesman of the Kingdom of Chu during the Chinese kingdoms, around 300 BC era This patriotic lyricist became a national hero when he jumped into the Miluo River, distressed to learn of the fall of the Chu capital in the hands of the rival army Qin. Races that act as metaphors for attempts to save Qu Yuan held annually in commemoration of that fateful event in Taipei of his Tomb of water. As the fleets of boats dragon opens road through water, supporters from the shore heavily hit drums in a symbolic gesture that tries to scare away fish and other creatures that could make a feast with the remains of the hero. Today, the annual regatta is so appreciated that it attracts teams of rowing around the world, eager to participate in these colorful powers.

Visitors to Taipei, however, do not have to be part of a world-class rowing team to enjoy the delights of Duan. For most travelers, the festival offers the perfect snapshot of the fascinating history and heritage of this city. For travellers who prefer to stay away from the rumbling of drums to revel in the local gastronomic delicacies, the Duanwu Festival presents a fabulous opportunity to taste some of the most appreciated delicacies of Taiwan.
